Agra: A 28-year-old mason has been arrested on charges of murdering a 10-year-old boy after a failed rape attempt in an Aligarh village, police said on Saturday. The child’s body was found in a field on Friday morning, hours after he went missing.
Dy SP Dhananjay Singh said the accused, a resident of Aligarh, was working at a relative’s house in the village, where the victim’s father was also employed as a labourer. “On Thursday night, the accused, under the influence of alcohol, lured the child to the field with wrongful intent. When the child resisted, and the mason feared being caught, he killed the boy and left the body in the field,” he said.
The DSP added that during interrogation, the accused confessed to striking the boy on the head with a heavy object, causing instant death due to severe head injuries.
The body was recovered from the field on Friday morning, triggering panic in the area. Police teams reached the spot, sealed the area, and began an investigation. Senior officials also visited the scene, and a forensic team collected evidence.
Police said the accused has been arrested and sent to jail. “A case has been registered under BNS sections 103(1) (
murder) and 238 (causing disappearance of evidence),” the Dy SP said.
The incident has left the village in shock, with the child’s family inconsolable. The boy’s mother, who had been living separately for the past three years due to a family dispute, returned to the village after hearing of her son’s death.
